FKCA "Mangalore Maza" Annual Sports 2010 Bangalore, June 8: MANGALORE MAZA 2010, the Annual Sports , cultural and food fest of the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations, was inaugurated at a very solemn function this morning. 14 member associations based in Bangalore and one from Mysore, had lined up on the grounds behind their Presidents holding the flags of their respective Associations. Two shining stars from the Konkan World, Master Alex D’silva (National Basketball player) and Ms. Zina Olivera ( National High jumper) circled the grounds with the Olympic torch, after which all the Presidents came forward and all present took a solemn oath to participate for the spirit of the sports and play a fair game.
The Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. Francis Colaco, Retired DG and IGP of Police declared open the games, and the Guest of Honour, Mr. Eric Ozario, noted Playwright, Singer and Guiness record-holder for singing the longest, at 40 hours, wished all the players and participants well. Mr. Stany Alvares, Youth leader from Mangalore was also present during the occasion Mangalore Maza 2010 was attended by about 1500 people. There were games and events for one and all, from the under-3 ft tiny tots to totterers of 82 !! All the events were very safe and enjoyable, and extremely entertaining. Traditional and cultural events like "Modla Volchi" "Sado Nesovncho", "Mogre bandche" were a great attraction. Age-wise, games organized were : Picking chocolates, frog race, bursting balloons , blowing balloons, hopping race, sack race, obstacle race, balancing the ball, lemon-n-spoon race, necklace 100 m running race, 50 m running race, and 25 m walking race for the over 60’s. Inter-association games included Cricket, Throwball, Water Relay, Bangle Relay, Bridal dressing, & Vovyo. Couples had Brick-walk, three-legged race and Carrying-the-Bride. Besides, there was also a race to determine the fastest man. Wessly conducted the track events effortlessly. There was an event for the family ( 4 x 50 mtr relay) as well which was won by Oliver and family.Lionel D’souza sports secretary of FKCA conducted Sado ( Bridal dressing competition ) and Vovyo singing competition. Eric Ozario himself was the judge for these special events. These two events, conducted for the first time in Bangalore, created a lot of interest and involvement among participants. As many as 10 teams participated in each of these events. BKCS won the Sodo dressing competition while St. Anne's Konkan Kutaam, Marathahalli won the Vovyo singing competition. Koncab were winners of both Cricket and Throw ball while last year’s Champions BKCS, Koramangala, were content with the runner up trophy for Cricket. KCS , Yashwanthpur were the runner up in Throw ball. The day concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the various events. Main sponsors for the event- Mr.Prashanth Maximm Sequeira, CEO of Arokia IT Pv Ltd, and Mr. Claudy Roberts of Global Punch were present during this occasion. Other main sponsors were Mr. Anil Rego and Rachna Rego of Right Horizons, Mr. Vincent Roberts of V.R. Engineering, Aircell , CAD Pharma Inc. Japan CBM corporation Ltd (buyqandqwatchesonline.com) sponsored Q&Q watches as prizes for the winners.BKCS, Koramangala, won the FKCA Mangalore Maza Champion’s Trophy with the maximum number of points.
