USWAS Festh 2010
Dubai, Feb 12: It was yet another memorable day for the parishioners and
well-wishers of Shirva parish in U.A.E and their friends as their famous team
Boscyambeghar provided another day of laughter and fun by their skits and dance-Shirva-dance.
True to their name USWAS (Breth) left the audience breathless by their
scintillating performances and left the audience spell bound. The anniversary
was celebrated at Dubai’s famous banquet hall of Excelsior Creek Hotel in Bur
Dubai.
The program began with the well
known U.A.E. Compeer Uttam Menezes welcoming the guests, sponsors and the well
wishers and friends of Shirva Parishioners. The day began with a prayer song
thanking their Patron Savud Maai (Mother Mary) for her blessing on members of
USWAS family here in U.A.E. Oscar Rego welcomed the gathering and the sponsors,
thanked them for coming in large numbers. Also wished them all the best and
enjoyable day. A very active member of the team Lavina Menezes announced names
of all sponsors especially the main sponsor of the event Mr. Robert D’sa of
Caesars Restaurants & Confectioneries.
A brief introduction was given on Caesars Restaurants & Confectioneries which
had the humble beginning when it started in 1990 and was inaugurated by then
Bollywood star Meenakshi Sheshadri. The Caesars has grown now in full strength
currently having 9 Restaurants and 18 Confectionery outlets in U.A.E. alone
besides having branches all over GCC countries. The Caesars also have won many
awards to name a few: Editorial Office Award in Madrid-Spain, OMAC Award in
Berlin-Germany, BID Award in Geneva-Switzerland & Council of International Award
(UK).
Lavina also thanked the co- sponsors of the program Mr. Joseph Mathias & his
family, Abu Dhabi and and all supporting, sponsors and well-wishers who have
contributed generously for the event. As a part of entertainment program UAEs
and well-known singers Joy Almeida, Asha Rego, Sharon Rego, Canute Mathias (of
Bhogna CD), Joseph Mathias (Merit Freight), Sheela Carlo sang all time hit
numbers (new and old) beautiful Konkani songs such as Tun Moja Mogacho, Yo Moga
Yo Re, Surva veng, Paizana, Bombaichem Chedun, Mog Kone Dekhla and Ami Dogi
Sezara accompanied by beautiful and gracious dancers: Michelle, Arun Vinay,
Shilpa (of Feat Beat Dance Group), Cleoon & Michole, Karen, Ashlin, Clarissa,
Rolvin, Steve, Aston, Masha, Sherlyn, Vilton, Lisha, Shelwin, Vaneesa and
Jinelle.
Canute Mathias also sang a few
numbers in Kannada namely: Noorondu Nenapu and Dhoni Saagadu.
‘SWEET MELODIES’ of Dubai the well-known and famous Musician/Singer Arun Carlo
and his group: Vincent Rodrigues, Rosalle, Roshan Carlo, Sabeena. The lead
guitarist Vincent Rodrigues also sang some beautiful Hindi numbers and
entertained the crowd. The melodious musical programme entertained the crowd
throughout the day.
Roshan Menezes read brief report of USWAS and highlighted some of their
achievements last year and mainly on charity work. The USWAS have been providing
and extending helping hand to many charitable deeds and have reserved a few
funds such as Medical Fund and Educational Fund. Through these funds they have
been providing for complete education of 45 poor students and looking after
expenses of 7 patients including operation costs of two patients back in Shirva.
After their recent success in Shirva (DHABAZO) they have been receiving a lot of
calls for help and USWAS has immediate steps to heed their calls and have
provided medical expenses of two patients, 2 educational and 1 Marriage expenses
apart from their educational/medical funds.
The felicitation function was conducted by Roshan Menezes by inviting the main
Sponsor Mr. Robert D’Sa (Ceasars) and Joseph Mathias (Abu Dhabi). He also
invited Rev. Fr. Freddy D’Souza, Asst. Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish, Dubai
and offered floral bouquets. On the occasion the compeer of the day Uttam
Menezes was honoured and felicitated for this relentless contribution to the
Konkani Programs. He has conducted hundreds of programs and has been
instrumental in making these Konkani Cultural Programs truly wroth and have
reached them to the highest level from where they were today. Uttam was pleased
to receive the honour and said he has been very close to Shirva Parishioners and
USWAS Shirva especially for providing platform from the beginning to stage
programs and he is indebted to them and very grateful. Though he is from
Mangalore, the Shirva and other close by Parishioners such as Pangala, Belle,
Belman, Kanjar, to name a few have been supporting him all the time.
Also honoured on the occasion was their own Shirva parishioner, famous artists
and organizer/Committee member Manoj Menezes and he too hounoured and
felicitated for his selfless work towards USWAS and mainly for his participation
in Cultural Programs and acting skills.

Mathias spoke on the occasion and praised USWAS members for their charitable and
many other activities associated with their Parish and pledged their complete
support to them in the future as well.
This year too the Shirva Parishioners of Abu Dhabi fondly known as: BOSKYAMBAGAR
yet again provided the eagerly waiting crowd what they were starving for and it
was none other than the total entertainment. Two Hilarious skits and a
traditional dance SACH KA KOMANA (Actually Such ka Samna) was mind-blowing and
hilarious followed by Dance Shirva-Dance (Dance India Dance) was amazing and
totally entertaining. The group consisted of Manoj Menezes, Sharon D’Souza,
Denis Mathias and Claudy D’Lima.
It was yet another unforgettable performance by these artists. The performance
was scintillating and thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd.
Prior to closing, Baila was presented by all singers: Sheron Rego, Joseph
Mathias, Canute Mathias, Uttam Menezes, Sheela Carlo and Joe Almeida and young
and old danced to the various tunes of Hindi, Konkani, Tulu and Kannada songs
until the end.
The Raffle draw was conducted at the end of the program and prizes were given
away for winners.
Vote of thanks was given by Dennis Mathias. He thanked especially all the
sponsors and said without their support this function would not have been
possible. Thanked all the well-wishers, artits, singers, musicians and media
persons, for their selfless service to the community.
Uttam Menezes and Roshan Menezes compeered the entired program and was well
appreciated by organizers and audiance. they engaged the crowd conducting
various spot games specially topics of Shirva Parish and Shirva Personalities,
teachers, priests, etc.
The entire program was very well organized and conducted harmoniously by their
