KCA-UK Joins FKCA
Bangalore Jan 6: The Konkani Catholic Association – United Kingdom,
widely known as KCA-UK, has joined FKCA as Federation's 18th member. KCA-UK is
one of the leading and renowned organizations of Mangaloreans in the United
Kingdom. We are based at Manchester and currently consist of more than 35
families from different parts of United Kingdom.
KCA-UK was formed during the year 2004 by enthusiastic Mangaloreans who had then
migrated to United Kingdom, specifically in the north-west of England. The
Primary objective during that time was to arise a sense of common community
feeling to those who are originally hailing from “Kodial” Mangalore. On
September 08, 2005, KCA-UK was officially formed, by celebrating the
“Monti-Fest” in Manchester, with the holy mass in Konkani followed by the
entertaining cultural activities. Since then KCA-UK is celebrating this
festival, taking into account of all religious, traditional and cultural values
of the homeland. Since inception, there were quite a few activities such as
picnics and indoor functions.
In the due course of time, it was felt that the KCA -UK should grow and provide
platforms for social gatherings amongst the Mangaloreans. As a result, in the
year 2007, December, KCA-UK started celebrating “Christmas–Boom” in Manchester.
This event attracted not only Mangaloreans, but also the others in and around
the UK.
During this expansion and with the provision of the social gathering, a need was
felt that, the Konkani Community should be recognized by the local authorities.
Hence KCA-UK is currently working closely with the Manchester City Council to
provide education concerning good citizenship in a multi-racial, multicultural
and multi-faith society of United Kingdom thus promoting the good relations
amongst each other. Apart from rendering our service Konkani people in the
United Kingdom, KCA-UK is a well-known institution in United Kingdom.
The people who served KCA-UK since inception to date are:
Year : President
2004-2006 : Mr. Ronald Lobo
2006-2008 : Mr. James Ravi Pinto
2008- : Mr. Santhosh Aloysius Pinto
The association is putting all its efforts as a team in fulfilling the
objectives which was set up and is looking forward to continue its work towards
further building up the Konkani Community in the United Kingdom.
