Mangalore, Nov 23: It was time to relive those golden days yet again
after golden year of marriage for 45 couples on Sunday, Nov 23. Thanks to the
effort of Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) who organised The Golden
Plus: A reunion of Mangalorean couples worldwide married for 50 years or more.
The couples that attracted
maximum attention were Valerian and Judy Mascarenhas who completed the 50th year
of their marriage on Sunday and Julian Monis (93) and Margaret Mary Colaco (87),
the oldest couple married for over 65 years.
The Thanksgiving Reunion began with a mass and was followed by a group photo.
Later the couple were brought in a grand procession to the hall and were
felicitated with memento each. A cultural presentation depicting the Roce
ceremony made the couples nostalgic. Michael Lobo, genealogist present on the
occasion said that it would be great if other communities planned such get
together so that we too can join and make it an affair to remember.
A sing along session with songs of yesteryears too was held. A special mass in
honor of the great marriages of the couple was also held at the St. Aloysius
Chapel. Many couple were of the opinion that adjustment and most of all
understanding are of prime importance for a successful marriage.
The maximum number of golden jubilee couples is from Bendoor-Kankanady area with
eight followed by Valencia and Bejai with total six couples Five couples each
from Kadri and Falnir area attended the function. Four couples from Bolar and
Derebail area with two from Bondel area too were present. Five other couples
were from outside the region like Bangalore, Goa and Thiruvananthapuram.
