FKCA meets CM of Karnataka Sri BS Yeddyurappa

Bangalore, June 25: A delegation from the Federation of Konkani Catholic Association met the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka. Sri . B.S. Yeddyurappa and congratulated him for his party’s victory in the recently held assembly election and for being unanimously chosen as the Chief Minister.

Chairman of the Federation Sri. Charles Gomes then submitted the memorandum. Given below are the demands :

1) Karnataka state Minority Commission : Chairmanship is to be rotated among all other minority communities. ( At the moment people from only one minority community are enjoying this position.)

2) Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation Limited : Same as above

3) Representation to Christians in the KPSC.

4) Nomination of a Konkani Catholic Christian for a seat in the Karnataka Legislative Council and induction in the state cabinet.

5) Representation to Christians in the State level undertakings, Boards and Corporations

Federation, established in 1998, is now in its 11th year of existence, comprises of 14 Associations of Konkani Catholics in the different localities of Bangalore, plus another Association in Mysore. Many more Associations in other parts of Bangalore and different districts of Karnataka are in the process of getting affiliated to the Federation.

Federation has made its strong presence in the community for the past several years by launching people friendly programmes like free placements service cell, Matrimonial cell. Entrepreneurs Forum and Free Medical camps etc. Federation has also been helping the needy as and when required by conducting regular programes to create awareness and focus attention on their problems besides interacting with the various authorities.

Gen. Secretary -Sri. Anil Rego, Past President – Sri Valerian Fernandes , Joint Secretary- Sri. B.V.Pinto and Smt. Ida Sequeira , Cultural Secretary – Smt. Aida D’cunha, Media Manager - Sri. Nigel Fernandes and Presidents of member associations were present.
